When one of the most historically rich buildings in Watts is threatened with a major housing redevelopment, a coalition of local artists and activists come together to preserve the building and revitalize its original mission of fostering arts in the community.

Friends at Mafundi, a grassroots organization created to prevent the demolition of the historic Watts Happening Cultural Center and more broadly, to preserve and restore the building, and create a contemporary space for its historic arts programs. This short documentary film will feature intimate, behind-scenes-footage with the organization as it fights against designed systems of injustice in order to reinvigorate a rich history of self-expression through arts embedded in the culture of Watts and other South Los Angeles communities of color with similar struggles.

Is my donation tax deductible?

Depends on a few factors like if you received a reward in exchange for the donation and the value of your donation above that rewards cost, etc. You may contact the nonprofit you donated to directly to receive information on whether or not your donation is tax deductible. Nonetheless, the emailed receipts you will receive for your donation is the documentation you need to make it tax deductible.
